Weight Loss

It’s difficult to lose weight, especially as we age. Some studies show that chlorella can help control weight and body fat loss.

In 2004, Hidaka et al., Published a study in which an extract of Chlorella pyrenoidosa suppressed weight gain in rats whose ovaries had been removed. These results suggest that a dietary supplement of Chlorella may be useful to control body weight and lipid metabolism improving menopausal women.

A subsequent study Chan et al., (2008) found that a methanol extract of Chlorella was antiobesity effects, reducing the accumulation of lipids in adipocytes.

In another study, and after nine weeks of supplementation with Chlorella, leptin levels were reduced in both normally fed rats and in rats fed a high fat diet. The alga Chlorella prevented the insulin resistance that occurs in a high-fat diet (Lee and Kim, 2009).

In a later article, published in the Journal of Medicinal Food in 2008, the effects of supplementation with Chlorella algae were studied in 34 people, half of whom were at high risk related to lifestyle diseases, such as type 2 diabetes After more than 16 weeks, Japanese researchers reported a significant loss of body fat along with a reduction in cholesterol levels and blood sugar.

Finally, Mizoguchi et al., (2008) found that "Chlorella intake produced significant reductions in body fat percentage".
